Folding your Gi
Here are some simple step by step instructions on how to neatly fold your Gi
- Spread the jacket out flat so that the arms are pointing straight out to the sides in a ‘T’ shape.
- Fold your gi pants in half lengthwise and place them on top of your jacket, horizontally centred. The top of your pants should be in line the jacket’s collar.
- If your gi pants extend past the bottom of your jacket fold the pant legs up so that they are the same height as the jacket using a single fold.
- Fold the left side of the jacket (as you look at it) over to the right, with the crease of the fold running along the edge of the pants leg (It’s about a third of the body). Then fold the sleeve back to the left so that you have nothing extending past the width of the gi pants.
- Do the same for the other side, going the opposite direction. You should end up with a reasonably rectanglular strip about the same width as a single pant leg.
- Fold the bottom edge up towards the middle. Don’t fold directly to the middle, leave some space for the final fold. (You’ll figure it out).
- Fold the top edge down towards the middle. Again, leave some space for the final fold.
- Fold the whole thing in half, top to bottom. You should end up with a nice neat regular rectangle shaped bundle.
- Finally, use your belt to tie the folded gi together. Use the same sort of knot as you do to tie the belt when you are wearing the gi.
- Done.
