What is Butoku Ryu Aikijujutsu?
Butoku Ryu Aikijujutsu is an embodiment of the guiding principles of Tanaka Shigeho Shihan.
What can you expect from Butoku Ryu Aikijujutsu?
Most people who start Aikijujutsu see it as a self defence system. After a few weeks of practise the beginner should have learned some basic techniques that can help them avoid getting into trouble. The focus of Aikijujutsu is on control, not devastation, of the opponent. It is not absolute strength that is important in Aikijujutsu techniques, but relative strength through its efficient application. Generally the students who are physically weakest and smallest, those who cannot rely on strength, pick up the techniques more quickly.
The true purpose of Butoku Ryu Aikijujutsu is self development. It uses the substantials of physical training to develop the insubstantials of the mind. It is a method of overcoming the obstacles to the achievement of one’s goals. These obstacles are not necessarily external, they can also originate from within.
Aikijujutsu is taught in mixed gender classes and typically women make up 10% of the club’s attendees. Training is practised in a controlled and respectful environment where pairs alternate between the roles of attacker and defender, as a technique is practised.
